NYATSANZA: MOST SIGNIFICANT STORIES OF CHANGE

My name is Perkins and I have been part of UMOJA since its inception. Since the beginning of UMOJA my life has changed dramatically, from making a mere $5 a month to about $100. Through our God given resources mantra we were all advised to bring a banana shoot at church and have a plantation. To date, in our church premises, we have over 1000 banana trees. Our banana plantations are doing well and we sell for $22 for 1000 bananas. Through this money we have managed to pay out tithes on time, contribute to the church and also have money to buy food. We have also managed to hire someone to work at the fields as we now have honey again in out plantations. We also have cabbages and sweet cabbage in our other fields which we intend on selling and also contribute immensely. Our major challenge we face is the market to sell our produce though it is steadily rising we still do wish we would have a higher output rate.

My name is Marbel Nyabanga and I have been part of the ILS group for a while now and have benefited greatly from this. We have a group of 8 people and we have monthly contributions that we make to our group which we share either at the end of the year or buy groceries for home consumption at our homes. We now manage to take our children to school with no delays in fees payment and are also to benefit for the nutrition gardens that we have. Also from the nutrition gardens we now have excess which we now sell and also get extra income we are really grateful for this project and do hope we work together closely.
